Shelter, 2015
Paper, flour, salt, twine
Installation

Shelter was an attempt to construct a small, single-roomed structure using building methods that have been practiced by humans around the world for millennia. In place of traditional earth and plant materials the artist used almost exclusively discarded paper.  The paper was shredded, pulped, and pressed into bricks using a homemade mold and press. The structure’s roof was hand weaved using rolled paper tubes and cordage made from newspaper.  The mortar sealing the structure is homemade wheat paste.
